Author note: The point of me writing this is to show how a character can change so much over time in a novel.
“I’m not saying socs or greasers are better that’s just the way things are” you can find this quote on page 3 said by Ponyboy. In the book “The Outsiders” by SE Hinton it’s all about static vs. dynamic you would think a lot of characters would stay the same, but in this book you will be finding out how a dreamy fourteen year old boy who belongs to a gang of greasers the “bad guys”,changes his thoughts and becomes a dynamic character.
First of all just like any other greaser in the beginning of the story, Ponyboy has the same opinion about the socs. That they are all rich stuck up jocks who think they are all that. By reading how he explained them so did I!Also he thinks that the socs lives in a totally different world then the greasers for example when Ponyboy said on page 41 “maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren’t so different. We saw the same sunset.”Ponyboy was stating how they live in two different worlds. Just like in any Middle school or High school everybody has a stereotype everybody had there own little world to worry about, without Ponyboy even realizing that not all socs are that way just like how Cherry said to Ponyboy “All socs aren’t like that”on page 34 It wouldn’t matter what anyone else did or say he had his mind set about the socs.
Finally with that being said toward the end of the book, Ponyboy suddenly didn’t think so poorly about the socs anymore. Ponyboy feels like he knows that the socs aren’t just socs they are real people. He gets the chance to know what the socs go through and that he realizes what differences and challenges they have and that they always will have.Just because his thought changed about him it doesn’t matter because on page 117 when Randy was talking to Ponyboy “greasers will still be greasers and socs will still be socs” no matter whose opinions changed but it did change the fact the Ponyboy would stick up for the socs. Like when Two-Bit asks Ponyboy" what 'the Super-Soc' had to say, Ponyboy replies that Randy isn't a soc,he's 'just a guy'"on page 118.Ponyboy stuck up the other “group”.
Even though Ponyboy is a dynamic charterer, he is a lot like the main character in another book I read named Willow by Juia Hoban. Just like Willow ( the main charterer in Willow) he shows a change through the story, and both of there thoughts change about stereo types. They both become stronger people and show they have changed caring for other people rather then themselves and just there "group" they put there self's in the other peoples shoes.
Following what was said above you can see how Ponyboy changes and matures throughout the book. Finally now you know how a dreamy fourteen year old boy who belongs to a gang of greasers the “bad guys”.Changes his thoughts and becomes a dynamic character. Also how Ponyboy can relate other charters from other books.
Good Job on your essay. Your theises was unclear but other than that you did good.
