Author note: The purpose of writing this will be to tell about lost of innocence in the book The Outsiders by SE Hinton.
Stay gold Ponyboy”Stay gold” that was Johnny’s last message to Ponyboy before passing into his deathly bed.In the book “The Outsiders” by SE Hinton there’s a key to this novel that I believe has a great part of being able to understand the story. Which is a theme of The "Outsiders " which is lost of innocence. Young Ponyboy apart of the Greasers (a group of people who everyone mis judges) lost his innocence over the people that was his family. His innocent slipped away as quick as a flash,They're many reasons why there is lost of innocence in the novel "The Outsiders"
First of the important theme is the lost of innocence, because to be able to lose innocence in your life you must do something bad. For example how Dally at age 10 lost his innocence for going to jail.Personally I can relate what the feeling is to know somebody that has been in jail before so knowing how his “friends” must have felt. Greasers in general they have been picking fights and getting themselves into trouble from an early age. Although I can see why they do what they do, it isn’t right what some of them do. Their parents are absent from their life and they have to defend for themselves and their "group". Darry, Sodapop and Ponyboy’s parents died in a car accident when they were younger. The Greasers have all lost their innocents when they became a “gang” member.
Secondly, their lifestyles have a lot to do with losing their innocents they have no boundaries and discipline, which ultimately leave them to killing and hurting Socs. They also witness death at such young age that must affect of how the Greasers live. Another example of a character that lost his innocence other than Dally at such a young age is Johnny, he is neglected nearly all the time by his parents. His life mirrors of millions of little children who are also neglected and hurt from their parents.
Inconclusion that’s how this book has a theme as lost of innocence and that's why this theme is a key part of this book. Also “The Outsiders”by S. E. Hinton is an emotional story about two groups and how they act and react to their life styles and the lifestyle of others. This book is a great book that shows how easy it is to lose your innocence and relate to this novel.
