Mis Judged

Author note: I will be writing a compare and contrast on Dallas and Johnny to prove that all greasers are not as bad as people think.

"And you can't win against them no matter how hard you try, because they've got all the breaks and even whipping them isn't going to change that fact" this quote made by Dallas is found on page 11.Just like in high school there are the stereotypes and in the book "The Outsiders" you have to defend your life if you are a greaser. All the socs think that all the greasers are "bad news" which is completely not true it's the socs who are the "bad guys" to prove that all greasers are not the same, I will be doing a compare and contrast on Johnny one of the main characters in "The outsiders" that is a greaser and also Dallas another greaser.


Following my compare and contrast about Dallas and Johnny i will first tell you about Johnny.You could say Johnny was the "good type" of greaser he was a caring 16 year old boy .Like ponyboy said "if u can picture a little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and lost in a crowd of strangers you've got Johnny" on page 13 and 14.Johnny was also brave just like Dallas,but Johnny and Dallas relationship was different than anybody elses relationship in the book all Johnny wanted was Dallas to be proud of him.Since Johnny didn't have a family that cared Dallas was the person to go to . Dallas cared about Johnny that's why in chapter two when Dallas taunted Cherry Valance and Johnny reaches out and stops him instead of punching Johnny like Dallas would have done if it was anybody else he just stormed out of the drive in movie theater.


Granted Dallas did care for Johnny, you could say he is the opposite of Johnny . He was in jail many times always breaking the law and talking to the cops. But he was still very caring but only to his "group" the greasers.As Ponyboy said again on page 12 and 13"Dallas has an elfish face with high cheekbones and a pointed chin small sharp animal teeth his hair was almost white he didn't like haircuts his eyes are blue blazing ice cold with hatred of the world tough cold mean". He described him as a type of person you normally wouldn't want to talk to.But like I said before Dallas cared for Johnny as if he was his younger brother. While Johnny shows innocents Dallas shows danger which are two total opposite characteristics.

So as you can see not all greasers are the "bad guys" they do have hearts they just get misjudged because their life is different than the socs. You can also see that Johnny and Dally's similarities are that they both have good hearts and they both play a meaningful role in Ponyboy's life as people he cares about and vice versa. Their differences are that they represent two opposite sides of the spectrum and how i said before the innocents or not. And that is the compare and contrast on Johnny Cade and Dally Winston.
