Author Note This is an essay based of point of view in a historical friction “Just Jane” by William Lavender. I will be writing about Jane’s point of view about seeing her rebel of her uncle.
“He forbids it, in fact” you can find this quote on page 23 In the book “Just Jane” by William Lavender it shows a lot of anger from one believe to another. At a young age in this book you have to decide what side you’re going to be on if you’re going to go with what you believe or go with what your family believes .Jane just moved to America from England because her uncle Robert and aunt Clarissa took her in to be her guardian after her parents dying. Jane was confused it was a new place and a new beginning but she doesn’t understand why it’s so hard for everybody to get along. This emotion affected any event that happened because it affected what she did throughout the story and how she reacted to not being able to see all her family.
First of all in Jane’s point of view, she felt confused and thought ether way she decided to go she would get hate on her .Jane didn’t understand why her guardian was making such a big deal about trying to meet her other uncle. Just like Jane said “I don’t understand? Why does everybody consist that I do not meet my uncle “found on page 25 .That’s not the only thing she felt .Jane also hated all the fighting between her family, so eventually neutrality she tried as hard as she could to remain in touch with all family members no matter how hard it would be just like she said again on page 30 “no matter what anybody says I will see him as a part of my family”
Although Jane didn’t think that her uncle was making a good decisions for her I as a reader, personally think that Jane didn’t realize what her guardian was doing for her .With her emotions in the book it affects of how I felt when I was reading it made me question and made me angry with her the way she’s treating her guardian with such disrespect but what I didn’t understand is did everybody have to be so mean and fight right in front of Jane? It could have possibly scared her off!
Finally This event could be completely be different in a different character’s point of view such as Jane’s guardian Uncle Robert. When Robert found out that Jane wanted to meet his unfaithful brother, he must have been furious with himself and his brother. It must have brought back memories that he never wanted to think about again. Or how about his point of view before Jane even arrived to America all these thoughts must have ran through his mind before her arriving. Robert must have thought to make sure it is so clear to everybody at the house hold that Jane would not be able to see his rebel brother is forbidden that’s why “He forbids it, in fact” (on page 23) Author said that to Jane. Robert told Author to make that clear. Also in Roberts’s point of view he just wanted the best for Jane.
Overall, point of view is very important and forces you to see only one side of the event, not two. A single emotion or reaction can change everything! Just like how Jane’s point of view was completely different then what Roberts would be. Jane thought that it would be much better if everything was at peace and she did see her uncle while Robert, thought if Jane saw her uncle it would be the end of the world for her future. He also thought that Jane’s own opinion would change, emotions can really change how the story goes I wonder how different it would be if the story was being told by someone else?
