Deep water

How would you feel if every time you see water it brings back the memory of terror? In this short story “Deep Water” By William O. Douglas it really tells the readers about how he dealed with his fear , and what he thought about it. When I was reading this story I couldn’t help, but it brought back a memory that effect me just like it affected him.

I was in a pool just like at the Y.M.C.A. in “Deep Water” I couldn’t swim that good so I was staying by the edge but I swam out a little, before I knew it I gulped a bunch of water. Opening my eyes I was under water .popping back up struggling for air. Before I could swim away I went under again, I realized I was under a tube. I tried using all my strength to push up on the tube , he must have been 130 pounds . The weaker I was getting I was getting more dizzy. Once my mom came up the deck to get me my lungs were about to explode .Every since that I’m terrified of tubes. Just like he did in “Deepwater” taking small steps to get over his fear.

Even through some what I related to this short story , there were some differences in this challenge in life, He was brave enough to conquer his fear, but I’m still terrified of tubes. Since what happen to me I won’t go a foot close to a tube. Maybe I can realize it’s nothing and conquer it one day. When something like this happens to you will remember this memory forever. Itll affect you and others many ways. For example in “Deep Waters” he couldn’t trust his self enough to swim by himself, and I overall can’t trust anyone with a tube in the water.

So I understand why he was so scared in “Deep water” because I would be just affected by it as he was. People might make fun of him for it, but it’s nothing to be ashamed of. I know how it feels to be made fun of over your fear. It must of made him a stronger person because, he stood up and used his strength to not give up. Try and re try to never give up.
