Your Best Pup

Author Note: The purpose of this poem is tell the readers the relationship between a boy and his hounds relationship in the book Where The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

Every boy needs a friend that never leaves their side,
To help us with our burden and challenges that will come,
Someone who is there to help us with it all,
To love, to protect and to be our hunting buddies,

Although a friend can bring much pain and sorrow,
Happiness overcomes the evil eyes of it all ,
The barking and the howling no fear,
You’ll know it instantly by the waging of their tail,

The pleasure of owning a pup as just a boy,
Gives you responsibility and gives you a best pal,
Gives you a welcome home frantic yelp of delight.
