Mary Poppins

How would you feel if you had a nanny with magic powers? In Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers it is a perfect example of romance literature. The plot line, symbolism and purpose in this book P.L Travers shows that this is a romance mode.
The plot line in this book is very simple. It fits the romance mode because there’s two parts to the plot line. Starts off with a minor conflict, of the kids not behaving the other nanny just couldn’t take it anymore, the kids went missing again. At the end of the plot line it shows life symbolism of Marry Poppins controlling the kids and their father listening to the children about Marry Poppins. Which ends the story in life symbolism .
Also other then the plot line fitting into the romance mode the other things that also makes it a romance is the symbolism . In this story it showed symbolism in every way you could in romance. Starting off with magical (not real) people where floating around using magic going into painting like it was like any other day. Also in romance symbolism it says that the main character is in control and Evil is weak good is strong. First the main character of Mary popins was in control. Everything really went her way she was in charge.
Next how evil is weak in this case the dad was evil and had really no say in this story for example “when everybody was singing and being happy the kids where finally behaving the dad was annoyed and couldn’t take it anymore so he exploded”. In the end nothing he said or did was realized. Unlike the main character of Mary Poppins.
Lastly is the purpose. In this certain mode there are two purposes in this story. They are sense of innocents and escapism which means to have a way out of things to makes things look and feel better than they really are. That’s how the purpose fits into romance . One of the things that happened in the story is when the guys were laughing and they were floating higher and higher . it was easy to make it seem better than it really was. But truthfully it was really that the older man was an alcoholic but they made it seem into something bubbly and fun. So the real purpose of this story was to “have fun every day” people there would make the boringest things into the funniest. Then the other purpose is “spoon full of sugar helps the medication go down” that makes the last purpose.
That’s why it is a romance mode. It fits into the plot line, symbolism, purpose easily. Not only does this story show those three things but it also shows family. It’s a touching story and it really makes you think about how the story retaliates to your life. Normally when the ending isn’t good its because they didn’t follow the certain modes plot line obviously Mary Poppins followed everything very well in the romance mode.
